Code Audit Services
Know What You Actually Have Before You Spend Another Dollar
When a software project stalls, the hardest part is not knowing what state it's really in. The developer says it's nearly done, the app says otherwise, and you're the one paying for every guess. A code audit replaces the guessing with a written, independent assessment from developers who have no stake in the code that's there. You find out what works, what's risky, what was never built, and what it realistically takes to finish.
- An independent review by developers who did not write the code
- A plain-language summary for owners, plus technical detail for developers
- Findings ranked by risk, so you know what to fix first
- An honest fix, finish or rebuild recommendation
- A fixed price and delivery date agreed before the audit starts
What a Code Audit Covers
We look at the software the way it will be judged in production: by attackers, by real users and by the next developer who has to work on it. Every finding in the report says where the problem is, why it matters and what fixing it involves.
- Security: exposed keys and secrets, authentication, authorization and outdated dependencies
- Architecture and code quality: structure, duplication, and how hard it will be to change
- Database: data model, access rules, backups and anything that will not scale
- Performance: slow pages, heavy queries and what breaks as usage grows
- Deployment and hosting: how it ships, who controls the accounts, and what happens if it goes down
- Completeness: what was promised against what was actually built
When a Code Audit Pays for Itself
An audit costs a fraction of what a wrong decision does. Owners usually order one at a turning point, when they're about to spend real money on a project they can't fully see into.
- Your developer or agency left and you need to know what they handed you
- You want a second opinion before signing another large quote
- An app built with AI tools is about to take real users or payments
- You are buying a business, or a product, that runs on custom software
- The software works, but slows down or breaks as more people use it
How the Audit Works
You don't need to prepare anything technical. We scope the audit on a short call, sign an NDA, get read access to the code and hosting, and do the review. Then we walk you through the findings on a call and you keep the written report, whether or not you hire us for anything else.
- A short scoping call, then a fixed price and delivery date
- NDA signed and read-only access set up
- Review of the code, database, hosting and the running app
- Written report plus a walkthrough call to answer your questions
- Optional fixed quote to fix or finish, if you want one
Code Audit FAQs
What is a code audit?
A code audit is an independent review of a software codebase by developers who did not write it. We read the code, run it, check how it is deployed and look at how data is stored and protected. You get a written report of what is solid, what is risky and what is unfinished, ranked by how much each issue matters to your business.
Who needs a code audit?
Most of our audits come from owners who have lost confidence in a project: the developer left, the agency keeps missing dates, or an app built with AI tools is about to go live with real users. We also audit codebases for people taking one over, buying a business that runs on custom software, or wanting a second opinion before they sign a large quote.
Do I need to understand the code to use the report?
No. The report leads with a plain-language summary written for the person paying for the software, followed by the technical detail a developer needs to act on it. We walk you through it on a call and answer every question, however basic it feels.
What do you need from me to start?
Read access to the code repository and, ideally, the hosting and database. If you are not sure where the code lives, or a former developer still controls the accounts, we help you track it down and secure access first. That step alone is often worth doing before anything else.
How long does a code audit take?
It depends on the size of the codebase. We scope the audit on a short call, then give you a fixed price and a delivery date before any work starts. Most small and mid-size web applications are reviewed in days, not months.
What technologies do you audit?
Modern web stacks: JavaScript and TypeScript, React, Next.js, Astro, Node, PHP and WordPress, .NET, and backends such as Supabase and Firebase. If your project uses something outside that list, tell us what it is and we will say honestly whether we are the right reviewers.
Can you audit code that was generated by AI tools?
Yes, and it is a growing share of our work. Code from Lovable, Bolt, Cursor, Claude Code and similar tools has predictable failure patterns: API keys exposed in the browser, missing authorization checks, database rules left open and logic duplicated across files. We check for all of them specifically.
Am I obligated to hire you to fix what you find?
No. The report is yours, and it is written so any competent developer can act on it. If you want us to handle the fixes or finish the project, we quote that separately, and the audit means the quote is based on facts instead of guesses.
Will you sign an NDA?
Yes, before we look at a single file. Your code, data and business details stay confidential, and we only keep access for as long as the audit needs it.
